Sitting in the Domain

Well I’ve got into the full swing of my new Job, and it’s been a pretty hectic couple of weeks. We’re heading back to NZ for christmas this year again, perhaps we’ll see some fireworks in the domain again.

Silo park at night

One of my favourite areas of Auckland is the waterfront, I used to work in this area years ago during school holidays, so it’s nice to see they’ve turned the old industrial area into this cool park.

Classic Kiwi Farm

This farm has been owned by the same family for generations, let’s hope it stays that way for a few more.

Morning Bliss

I don’t get up for sunrise very often but when I do I am generally rewarded well.

Bush and Beach

I survived my first day at the new job. I’ll stop with the new jobs posts once I’m a little less pre occupied by the whole thing, give me a couple of days.

Here’s a shot from the “family beach” woolleys.

Gotta be keen

You have to be slightly mad to want to strap a giant catherine wheel to your back and run around in an LED suit, I saw these guys in the Auckland domain a couple of years ago and it was great to watch, a real cool mix of fireworks, lights, lasers and music.

Group F are the guys that put these show on.

Simple Lines

Photos don’t always have to have interesting subjects in them to be appealing. Not that the ocean is uninteresting, it’s just this is a rather simple photo of it.

To me this photo is very calm and portrays a sense of serenity, it also makes me dream of what’s under the surface, having dived in many places on the planet I do have some sense of what lies beneath. I am sure there are plenty of people out there that think it’s full of dangerous man eating beasts. In reality, at least when diving, what lies under the surface is as calming and serene as this photo. I have been up close and personal with many sharks and have only once been afraid. It’s jaws did open a few inches in front of my face as it was biting our dive masters “shark prodder”, I left the water very quickly after that. Though I do now realise it was only reacting to getting poked at with a sharp stick. Similar to what we would do.

Tidal Stream

I crossed this little stream a few times a day while at Woolleys beach, it was never in the same place, sometimes it was a trickle and other times it was completely blocked off. I really like the way the tides of the ocean can change a beach landscape so quickly.

North Wharf

Like every other person with an interest in photography, I dabble with HDR, a lot less than I used to, that’s probably got a lot to do with how much better the dynamic range of the newer cameras is these days.

I’m pretty sure this is called North Wharf, not really sure what was here before, perhaps just a log depot before they got loaded onto boats for China or some other Asian city.
