At ground level

I lay down in the mud to get this photo, it was on the edge of the Ndutu lake in the Serengeti plains. Most wildlife photos are taken from either door level height of a landrover or landcruiser or from a roof hatch. There is an obvious risk getting out of a car and lying down on the ground in any wildlife park, I’ve only done it when plenty of people who I trust are watching out for me and the area is wide open and we have a clear view of what’s around for quite a distance.

Taking off

You need big lenses for flamingoes, by big I mean long. I’ve never managed to get close to them on the shore of any lake, they’re very skittish. I took this shot while lying down in the mud at the edge of lake Ndutu.

Classic Africa

So what images come to mind when you imagine Africa, this has to be one that I imagine quite a bit. Wildebeests, a landrover, a dusty track and the Serengeti plains.
