Lonely Road

My parents will hopefully be visiting this place very soon, they’re in Etosha at the moment, covering a very similar route to the one we travelled a couple of years ago now.

Elephant March

This herd was on the move, probably headed for water but they weren’t stopping for anything.

Sun setting over Okaukeujo

This has to be my favourite waterhole in Etosha, I’ve spent countless hours at it over the years and it’s only a couple of minutes walk from the campsite.

Tasty Log

Elephants are the best to watch especially the young ones, they’re kind of like human kinds, very inquisitive and doing strange things all the time.

Night Owl

On the last trip to Namibia I did some timelapse stuff, I still haven’t quite finished it, hopefully before the end of the year I will get it done. I found this shot in amongst the many and was pleasantly surprised how a little owl, most likely a pearly spotted owl, sat on this tree for a few frames.

Twisted trees of Marienfluss

I was emailing with a friend today, he mentioned how he was impressed that I’ve managed to keep my blog posting up while starting the new job. I said it kind of feels like it’s on autopilot at the moment. Most of the posts haven’t been very substantial, I try to put a bit more thought into what I am writing rather than the few words I’ve been writing recently. This blog is about my photos, I have loads of things I would like to write about and share, but writing takes time, sometimes quite a bit. Like everyone else I am very much bound by the limitations of time.

Hopefully over time I will manage to adjust my time and be able to turn off the autopilot to spend more time doing this. For now though I will happily take the autopilot assistance in helping me share photos.

This photo is from one of those wonderfully remote places that is just peaceful and beautiful.

Vast Namibia

There’s nothing quite like setting up camp and then walking up a nearby hill to watch the sun set over your camp. When you get to the top you realise you are the only people camped as far as you can see.

Leading cubs to water

I have so many photos of this pride, it was amazing to see such a small pride with so many cubs, there were two big males, three females and twelve cubs. We first passed them on a side road in Etosha, and instantly knew they were heading for a waterhole about a km away. So we went straight to the waterhole and waited. They appeared after a short wait out of the bushes heading straight for the waterhole.

Shooting at speed

One of the problems in some of the public national parks is the closing and opening times of the gates, while I understand these times are to make sure the animals and people are safe from colliding into each other at night. Due to enforced times what tends to happen is you stay out as long as you can and rush back to the camp or gate at speed, which endangers everyone more. It also means for us photographer types that we sometimes have to shoot out the window of a moving car.
