Winter hibernation

Or something like that. I’m not going to make any excuses, it’s been a fair few months since my last post. No real reason, just busy.

The last time I used a camera for personal reasons was in Dubai, so let’s pick up where I left off.

Ghosts on the grand canal

This photo was a little unexpected. The trip earlier this year to Venice was the first time I used the lee big stopper and I was hand holding it in front of the lens. I was having a hard time getting it right. This is one of the few successful shots I have, most of them are just a mess. I find the river and the boats look very ghostly in this photo.

Drift Wood

Well I still seem to be battling with sickness at the moment. Here’s one to remind us of warmer times only a few months ago now.

Walking Home

Well this has been a very social weekend, first a wedding in France on Saturday then a 60th birthday party this afternoon, it’s been more running around than needed after a week with a couple of long work days and a couple of days off sick. But at least the weather was nice at the end of today while I walked home from the birthday party.

Sense of Place

Sometimes an image needs an element that everyone understands to make sense of a place. While in Sweden I decided to add a human element (myself) to some photos. As long as you have a tripod and a camera with a self timer this is easy as to do.

Gondola Repair Station

So many visitors to Venice never venture more than a few minutes from the major attractions, it’s a bit of a shame considering there are so many cool things on the side canals.

Lego men of the street parade

The street parade is on again, I still haven’t decided if I’m going down to take some shots. Hopefully I’ll be more decisive in the morning.

Danish wind farm

It was pretty rough the day I took the ferry from Germany to Denmark, it’s only a 45 minute ferry ride so no real drama. The weather wasn’t the best, it was raining on and off so everyone was inside except for the odd smoker and me. The rain has never really bothered me, I quite like it, as long as it’s not a torrential downpour or worse horizontal rain, which I’ve experienced a couple of times, in New Zealand and once in Scotland.

Karen Blixen’s House

Just north of Copenhagen is Karen Blixen’s house. Louise would love to have been Karen Blixen, it’s here favourite book, movie and probably music. Every time we are in Africa, especially east Africa, she imagines living that life. I always suggest why don’t we do it, we can give it a go and always come back. Who knows maybe one day…

Reflections in the harbour

Torekov has two harbours, one for big boats and one for all the small little boats. I’m amazed by the number of boats here considering how the town isn’t very big.
