Big City Lights

LA is a pretty cool city. We were there in the middle of the LA winter and I was wearing shorts most of the time. If that’s what the weather is like, I want to move there.

I’ve lived in Switzerland for over 15 years now and its somehow worn out its charm on me. So I find myself daydreaming about where else in the world I could go, it’s always places I’ve visited. Somehow LA features on that list, which I find odd as the US is one of the last places I would have thought I would have ever wanted to live in.

Beverly Hills Sign

I felt pretty lucky standing there taking a photo of this sign when the Ferrari drove past, with the size of the houses around I’m surprised there weren’t more of them.

ISO 4000

The Fuji X-E1 is an impressive camera, this was taken at iso 4000 handheld.

No Parking

I’m guessing the double vision effect of this mural down at Venice Beach was intentional, somehow it’s more effective in this photograph with all the surroundings removed.

Newport Silhouette

We visited a couple of the beaches in the LA area while we were there, bit of a strange thing to do in winter but it was pretty warm. Newport felt like the most “normal” beach we visited, Venice was full of “crazies” and Santa Monica felt quite Sterile and uppity.

Venice Beach Skater

LA is a place of great contrasts, from Santa Monica, Hollywood to Venice beach all very different. Venice beach was interesting and I was pleasantly surprised there when a young lady bought me back the 100 dollars I had accidentally dropped in her little shop.

Griffiths Observatory

We spent most of our time in LA at Disney and Universal studios, which are brilliant places to visit especially when hanging out with crazy kids like my niece and nephew.

Of the few “grown up” places that we visited, Griffiths Park has to be my favourite. It was huge and felt very detached from the city and close to nature. Once we got up to the top to watch the sunset it was even more rewarding, the observatory itself is a real cool building. The views over the enormous city as the lights come on at night are great, I’m sure millions of photographs have been taken from here but I still thoroughly enjoyed replicating other photographers efforts.

Lucky Shot

Just sometimes you get lucky, like this photo. I was walking down Rodeo drive earlier today with Louise waiting at a pedestrian crossing when I saw this old classic porsche coming towards us, I only had time to remove the lens cap, turn on the camera and press the shutter, I didn’t frame the photo just pressed and hoped. What makes this shot even luckier is that I had left the camera on a high f stop from the shot before to get a big depth of field this created the motion blur in the car which I always like in photos.

San Diego Bay Fishing

I’ve been enjoying the time on this holiday with my family and haven’t taken all that many photos. There hasn’t been all that much time to stop and look and take photos.

That doesn’t mean that I haven’t taken any at all.
