I like this photo, I don’t take that many photos with backlighting. There is one thing that bothers me about it, the long piece of grass right in front of the Meerkat. This boils down to paying attention to the entire frame rather than just the subject, I could have moved a couple of feet left of right and got nearly exactly the same shot without the piece of grass. It wouldn’t have been hard, this group of Meerkats where habituated and had a human minder.
This was taken in the Makgadikgadi pans in Botswana, we went on a tour organised by Planet Baobab. Included in the tour was a night out under the stars on the salt pans, quad biking and a visit with the Meerkats.
