Gannet above

Big telephoto lenses are great for tightly framing shots of wildlife but hand holding one of these for any length of time is near impossible, sometimes the conditions are right for smaller lighter lenses to be used to get the same sort of shot.

While out at Muriwai in New Zealand trying to get some photographs of the gannets, the wind was blowing fiercely. The gannets flying into the wind hovered nearly motionless several metres directly above me. This allowed me to use a lighter lens to get a few shots like this one.
